“This is Not a Close Call as a Prosecutor” Former U.S. Attorney Tim Purdon Joined Over 700 Former Federal Prosecutors Accusing Trump of Obstruction

Over seven hundred former federal prosecutors have signed onto a letter claiming the conduct of President Trump would, “result in multiple felony charges for obstruction of justice.” The list contains signatures from prosecutors who served under both Republican and Democratic administrations. Former U.S. Attorney Tim Purdon joined the letter. Purdon served five years under President Barack Obama.

The public letter explains the examples of obstruction as detailed in the Mueller report. The former prosecutors lay out that the reason charges were not brought to Donald Trump. It rests on a policy by the Office of Legal Counsel against “indicting a sitting President.”

Each of us believes that the conduct of President Trump described in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report would, in the case of any other person not covered by the Office of Legal Counsel policy against indicting a sitting President, result in multiple felony charges for obstruction of justice. – Bipartisan statement from former federal prosecutors.

Purdon joined me on my KFGO show, “Afternoons Live with Tyler Axness.” You can listen to that full interview at the link above. The most striking example of obstruction to Purdon involved an incident with former White House Counsel Don McGahn. “One of the incidents that’s highlighted in our letter is that Trump, on multiple occasions, called White House Counsel Don McGahn and ordered him to fire Robert Mueller,”  Purdon told me.  “When it leaked that that had happened, he went back to McGahn and said ‘I need you to fabricate a government record. Write a memo to the file saying I never said that to you.”
