ND Rep. Josh Boschee to Announce Candidacy for Secretary of State

North Dakota State Representative Josh Boschee is set to announce he will seek the Democratic-NPL nomination for the office Secretary of State on Tuesday. The announcement came in a Monday afternoon email. Boschee will make an official statement at two press conferences tomorrow in Bismarck and Fargo.

Boschee is the first Democrat to announce their candidacy for the Secretary of State. His email advisory came on the same day current Secretary of State Al Jaeger declared he will seek reelection. Will Gardner has announced he will challenge Jaeger for the NDGOP nomination.

In his email, Boschee said he would focus on the integrity of our election system as well as keep voter information secure. Both have been areas of contention recently. The Department of Homeland Security notified North Dakota they were one of the twenty-one states targeted by Russian hackers. The North Dakota Legislature also rejected Jaeger’s request to update the state’s voting equipment. In 2017, the Secretary of State’s office considered sending North Dakotan’s voter information to President Trump’s voting commission. Jaeger’s office was prohibited by state law.

Rep. Josh Boschee was first elected to the North Dakota House in 2012. He serves on the Industry, Business, and Labor Committee. Boschee is an area Realtor when not serving in the North Dakota Legislature.
